Why do I need my pond cleaned?
Over time your pond will start to collect debris, fish waste, leaves, algae’s (blanketweed) and sludge. Some of this will be removed with a good a filtration system but there will always be spots in the pond where the pond pump just can’t reach. Other than making the pond dirty and not looking great the sludge trapped can release gasses which can be toxic to wildlife and fish.
How often should I get my pond cleaned?
One thing to remember is that all ponds are different. Location and surrounding vegetation such as overhanging trees will play a large part in how often you should clean your pond. Usually with a pond that has minimal surrounding trees we would advise to clean the pond once a year, this is the case for most ponds in suburban areas. If your pond has plenty of overhanging trees, shrubs, or flowerbeds, you may want to get this done a few times a year.
